A different Nativity

13/10/2020

This year, we'll have a very different kind of Nativity. Because of the current situation, it is sadly not possible to have our usual Nativity service on Christmas Eve at Humbie Church. However, we will have a Nativity service that afternoon nonetheless - just in a different way from usual, to keep us all safe.

For our Nativity play, w
e're planning to film all children individually (or in family groups), and then put it all together into our very own Nativity movie, which will premiere on Christmas Eve.

Costumes, props and technical help are of course available.

Equally, we hope to have a brilliant choir, as we would usually in church, although this year it will be a virtual one.

If you and your child(ren) would like to participate in either the Nativity play or the choir, please contact us by 10 November.

Looking forward to Advent

13/10/2020

Not long until Advent.... And while this year, it might look a bit different,we are planning lots of exciting things that we hope we can all safely engage in, in addition to our services. Read below about our plans, and about how you can get involved:
A Parish Advent Calendar
We would like to make an online advent calendar this December, which can be watched each day, being festive, informative, thought provoking, biblical, musical, or amusing, or all of these, to give some seasonal spirit during the build up to Christmas. For all who are unable to watch online, a DVD or similar will be available.
With this in mind, we are looking for 24 volunteers from across the parishes to make a single 5-minute video clip for our the daily advent calendar. Technical advice can be offered, and we could even film you on your doorstep if necessary!

So if you have a favourite Christmas recipe to demonstrate or a Christmas song to sing, a poem to recite or story to tell, or perhaps a Christmas flower arrangement or decoration idea to share, please get in touch by email, to state your interest and suggestion to: Family.gobourn@gmail.com, by 10 November 2020.
Advent Music
While we currently can't sing together in our service in the churches, we can do so in our online services. For some of our Advent services - especially the Lessons and Carols service, and our Nativity service, we would like to form a virtual choir. If you would like to join in, please contact us by 10 November.

Christmas Shoebox Collection

1/10/2020

Edit 6 Nov 2020: Thank you very much to all who have supported this appeal. We delivered 45 boxes from the joint congregations, as well as some generous financial donations - a record for us! Many thanks also to Alison for coordinating and managing it all.
While autumn has its hold over us, it is already that time of year to look ahead.

We would like to once again support the Blythswood Care Shoebox Appeal, which is going ahead as usual this year, although we have to make a few adaptations to the way we deal with the boxes. Any donation would be very much appreciated.
As we cannot hand out the leaflets, we are asking those who can to print a copy themselves  for their own or friends' boxes. If you do not have a leaflet, please write a list of the items in your box and include it with your donation of £3 to cover transport costs.

Should you be unable to get hold of a shoebox, a drawstring bag is acceptable provided it is not plastic.

We will collect the boxes at Humbie Church at the services on 18 October and 1 November. You can also drop a box off at Yester Church on Friday, 30 October, between 9 and 11am, or you can contact us to arrange a pick up from your home.

If you are unable to fill a box this year and would prefer to make a donation, that would be very welcome, too.

Thank you very much for your support!
